The year is 1945 Deployment for Distruction.
D-DAY
In the early morning hours of February 19th, Naval guns opened fire on the island. Soon the island became a torched beco for the one-hundred and ten Airforce bombers. With the passing of the air support the Naval guns opened again. By dawn, Marines were queing to embark. By 8:30 the Marines had landed. The crackle of smoldering scrub belied the ease of victory. The Japaness were well prepared.
Mad Ivan's thanks all the curious and all the supporters who dropped by during the weekend game in Tyler. Players reported having a really good time. The relaxed atmosphere and details made in planning the Iwo Jima Scenerio added a lot to fun.

U.S. Marine assignment:
Take the small sulfurous island which lines in a
direct line between bases in the
Marinas and Japan.

Historians described U.S. forces' attack against the Japanese defense as "throwing human flesh against reinforced concrete."

Hard statistics show the sacrifice made by Colonel Johnson's 2nd Battalion: 1,400 landed on D-Day. 288 replacements were provided for a total of 1,688. 1,511 were killed or wounded. 177 returned from the island. 91 of these had been wounded at least once and returned to battle.

General Kuribayashi was brilliant. His strategy was to fight the battle entirely from beneath the ground. They dug 1,500 rooms into the rock. These were connected with 16 miles of tunnels. Japanese strategy called for "no Japanese survivors." They planned to kill 10 Americans before they themselves are killed. General Kuribayashi died in the battle.

Japanese Assignment:
Kill 10 American before you kiss the Buddha.
