Borneo__The 5th Battle

The Island Hopping Campaign©
Borneo was a remote island rich in oil and rubber. Japanese had easily taken it from the Dutch. US war strategists could not agree on the risk of scattering forces in order take Borneo. The Japanese, however, did not hesitate to parashoot troops in to protect materials needed for their military industry. Mad Ivan's decided to experiment with this scenario. What if Marines had landed against the Japanese? By the results of this game, it seems the wisdom of our generals was not far off the mark.
Army of the Rising Sun and the American Marine Team met in Tyler, Texas.

Paintball Pearls
The wet environment caused some delay and a few equipment problems including this odd string of paintball pearls pulled from a barrel.
Threatening skys didn't slow preparation. More worried bout where the Japanese commander was. Road accidents in the area were talked about as folks arrived. Then, finally, the grining general arrived heavily laden with ordinances he had requisitioned from every 4th of July fire works booth between Dallas and Tyler. His love of things that go boom delighted everyone.
Samuri Pinhead
The Brewing Storm
American rostered early. They had gathered a strong force to halt their slipping early gains over the Japs. The Army of the Rising Sun didn't appear on the horizon until talk had begun that the Marines might have to draw chopsticks to see who would stand in for the imps of the Emperor. Then as the sky showed evidence of a brewing storm, indeed one arrived. The Samurai Warriors ascended with truck beds filled with ordinance. They were ready to get it on!
Both teams worked in buddy groups. The only rouge was the Japanese General who frustrated the Marines to the point that they had to come up with a plan to deal with him directly. Their solution was to capture and imprison the mad bomber so they could have a peaceful war.
Flag Flip
Flag stations poles strained with the constant exchange. There was no reluctance by either team to dash into the ponds, streams, and face the forces of nature to pull the ropes again and again. Time checks became important. Refs were double stepping to keep track of the flag changes on time. Nothing was final until the fat ref sung.
Army of the Rising Sun

The Japanese General came ladened with the traditional ordinances of celebration. His troops and his oppenents celebrated his madness.
 Assignment:
    v...Four Winds Entrance
Samurai Warriors plan to send round eye home in rubber bags, which they can easily supply if they can keep island resources.

´

<...Japanese planned their incursions carefully. Flag 7 was just outside the tree line. Approaching it was risky.
v...Japanese pause at short of the flag station before advancing to change it's display.
U. S. Marines
AflagAssignment:
Marines are to contain the Japanese and insure that no natural resources get off the island

No emergency. Local EMTs took a break after the storms subsided from their day job to explain to their Marine General why they were absent without leave from the war-game.

^...The American General, Joe LaMotte put total trust in his troops. His command style is casual confidence.

Chef Robert cooked brisket, beans, homemade masked potatoes and peach cobbler. After the meal, players sat in the bunkhouse and watch the movie, 4th of July....v

Michael enjoyed finding another T to add to his collection.
The Marines got so frustrated with the mad bomber Japanese General they begged for new rules to allow for prisoners. Once they got the idea accepted, they immediately took him into custody so they could have a peaceful, quiet war....>

After dark on Saturday night players returned to the field of play for a special recon event. Flares were used to check flag stations. Pin light flash lights were used in a hide and seek game. All waited until the morning to see what ground had been gained.

Japanese - 3,230

Marines - 2,990

The honor ceremony took place after sun down on Saturday. Once again the Japanese received the Sword of Victory, which makes the Marines nervous as it dawns on them that the little guys are one up.
The sky cleared afterdark. The younger players went to the bunkhouse and watched the movie Fourth of July, while the elders sat under the canopy of stars and talked about the game and other powerful mischief.
